How Much Is a Periodontal Deep Cleaning?

Costs and Insurance

A complete deep clean at Berala Dental is $1,200–$1,600 all-inclusive — OPG, X-rays and perio charting included, no hidden fees. Maintenance $400 a visit.

If you've been told you need a deep clean and you're now searching for prices, you've probably noticed the numbers are all over the place — and half the websites won't give you one at all. So here's a straight answer.

The straight answer

At Berala Dental, a complete periodontal deep clean (scaling and root planing) is $1,200 to $1,600, all-inclusive, with no hidden fees. Severity — and therefore how many visits you need, from 1 to 4 — decides where you land in that range.

All-inclusive means exactly that. Your fee covers:

Why quotes vary so much between clinics

Two reasons. First, severity genuinely differs — one person's deep clean is a single visit, another's is four quadrant-by-quadrant appointments. Second, and less fairly: many quotes aren't all-inclusive. A figure that looks cheaper can grow once X-rays, charting or the anaesthetic are billed separately. When you compare prices, ask what's in the number. Ours is everything.

What about after the deep clean?

Gum disease is managed, not just treated once. After your course, most patients move to perio maintenance visits at $400 each — typically every 3 months — and each one includes any relevant X-rays and an updated perio chart. No hidden fees there either. These recalls are just as important as the deep clean itself: they're how the result is kept, not lost.

Will your health fund help?

Most extras-level health fund policies contribute toward periodontal treatment. How much depends on your fund, your level of cover and your remaining annual limits — so it's worth checking with your fund. We claim on the spot via HICAPS and are happy to run a quote with your fund before treatment starts.

Not sure you actually need one?

Fair question — a deep clean is only right when your gums genuinely call for it. Bleeding when you brush, persistent bad breath, or a dentist mentioning "pockets" are the usual flags. Our deep cleaning page explains the whole process step by step, and our article on why proper gum assessment matters covers what thorough charting looks like. A second opinion is always welcome — bring your quote from elsewhere and we'll give you our honest read.
