Full oral exam

Teeth, gums, jaw joints, tongue, soft tissues — including a quick oral cancer screening that takes under a minute.

X-rays only when needed (usually every 1–2 years) to catch decay or bone issues you can't see.

Ultrasonic scale

A gentle ultrasonic scaler vibrates plaque and tartar loose without harming enamel. Numbing gel available if you're sensitive.

Polish & fluoride

A soft rubber-cup polish removes stains and smooths the surface. Finishing fluoride strengthens enamel against decay.

Costs vary based on your individual needs (whether X-rays are required, build-up of tartar, fluoride application). If you have private health insurance with extras dental cover, your fund may contribute partially toward the cost — and in some cases the full cost may be covered, depending on your fund and policy. A standard check-up and clean takes around 30 minutes. This includes a full oral exam, X-rays if due, an ultrasonic scale, polish, fluoride application, and a clear discussion of any findings. New patients are allocated a longer first visit. Deep cleans for heavier build-up take 1 to 2 hours and may be split across visits.
The Australian Dental Association recommends every 6 months for most adults. If you have a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, or wear braces, we may suggest 3–4 month visits. We tailor the schedule to your individual oral health.
A regular check-up and clean is preventive — it removes plaque and tartar from above the gum line and takes about 30 minutes. A deep clean is a different treatment for patients with heavier calculus build-up, gum disease, or extended time between visits. It cleans below the gum line, takes 1 to 2 hours, and sometimes needs to be split across two visits. We assess whether you need a deep clean at your initial check-up.
We accept all major Australian health funds including Bupa, Medibank, HCF, NIB, AHM, HBF, CBHS, Defence Health, GMHBA, Health Partners, Latrobe Health, Australian Unity, Peoplecare and others. We process claims instantly via HICAPS, so you only pay any gap (often $0) on the day.
For most patients, no. The ultrasonic scaler vibrates plaque loose using gentle water — it feels like a tickling vibration, not pain. If you have very sensitive teeth or significant gum inflammation, we can apply numbing gel beforehand. We never push through discomfort — tell us and we adjust.

You can always book the treatment for another visit, or get a second opinion. We accept Afterpay and Zip if cost is a concern.

Deep cleans (periodontal) — when & why.

If your gums bleed when brushing, or you have bad breath that won't shift, you may have periodontal disease — bacteria living below the gum line. A regular clean won't fix it. A deep clean does.

Gum disease is the #1 cause of adult tooth loss — and it's fully treatable when caught early. Gentle, usually local anaesthetic, 1–2 appointments.

How long does a check-up take?
Usually 30–45 minutes for a clean exam. First visit can be up to an hour while we get your history, take baseline photos and x-rays if needed, and answer any questions you've been sitting on. We never rush — if something needs more time, we book a follow-up rather than cut corners.
Will it hurt?
A routine clean shouldn't hurt. If your gums are inflamed it can feel sensitive — we go slower, warn you before anything, and can use topical numbing gel. If you're a nervous patient, tell us when you book and we'll plan around it. Happy gas (nitrous oxide) is also available if you want it.
Do I need x-rays every visit?
No. Most adults need a fresh set every 2 years, or sooner if we're investigating something specific (pain, a suspicious spot, a broken filling). Kids with a history of cavities may need them more often. We use digital x-rays — about 90% less radiation than the old film ones, for reference.
Can I bring my kids at the same time?
Yes — and we love when families come in together. We can book back-to-back appointments so you're in and out in one trip. Kids under CDBS are bulk-billed (no out-of-pocket), and the kids rooms are set up so parents can sit in.
What if you find something needs fixing — can I decide later?
Absolutely. We give you a written plan with photos, prioritised (what's urgent / what can wait / what's optional), and you go home to think about it. No pressure, no same-day upsell. If you want to do it on the day, we usually can — but only if you're ready.
Do you accept my private health fund?
Yes — every major Australian fund, and we process claims on the spot via HICAPS. Many of our patients with Extras cover pay $0 for routine check-ups and cleans. Send us your fund name when booking and we'll run a benefit check before your visit so you know your out-of-pocket in advance.
