How often should you have a check-up and clean?

Most adults are seen every six months, which is often enough to catch decay and gum problems while they are small.

Some people are seen more often. After a deep clean, maintenance visits are every three to four months. Pregnant patients are placed on a three-month recall at Berala Dental, because hormonal changes make the gums react more strongly to plaque. When a clean is not enough

What if your gums need more than a regular clean?

Gum disease often causes no pain at all. People can carry it for years, losing bone around their teeth without knowing, which is why the gum screening at every check-up matters: bleeding and pockets show up there long before a tooth feels loose.

If the screening shows gum disease, a regular clean will not reach the tartar that has built up on the roots. A deep clean does. At Berala Dental the initial phase is $1,600, with periodontal charting included, followed by $400 maintenance visits every three to four months. It is quoted in writing before it is booked.
