What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is tooth-coloured composite, the same family of material used for white fillings, added to the surface of a tooth and shaped by hand. It is set with a blue light and polished to match the tooth.

Because the composite is added rather than the tooth being cut away, bonding keeps almost all of your natural tooth. It is usually one visit and often needs no injection.

What are the limits of composite bonding?

Composite is not as hard or as stain-resistant as porcelain. Over time it can pick up staining from coffee, tea, red wine and smoking, and edges can chip, particularly if you bite nails or hard objects. It can be polished or repaired when that happens.
