What makes us different

Why kids actually like coming.

Four things we do that turn a scared first visit into a happy habit.

🧸

Toy & toothbrush

Every child leaves with a small toy and a brand-new toothbrush they get to choose.

🐢

No rushing

First visits can be just a chair-ride and a count of teeth. We never force a treatment.

🗣️

Plain kid words

"Tooth shower" instead of cleaning. "Sleepy juice" instead of anaesthetic. Less scary, same care.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Parents welcome

Stay in the room. Hold your child's hand. Sit them on your lap if it helps.

First visit

What actually happens.

Five gentle steps. No drills, no surprises, no pressure.

1

Say hi, look around

Your child meets the team, picks a sticker, sees the room. Total time: about 5 minutes of getting comfortable.

2

Chair ride & tooth count

We let them ride the chair up and down (always a hit), then count teeth with a little mirror. They can sit in your lap if they prefer.

3

Quick check & chat with you

Practitioner checks teeth, gums and bite, then talks you through anything to watch — and what's totally normal.

4

Tooth shower (if they're up for it)

A gentle clean and polish for older kids. Younger ones can skip and try next time. We never push.

5

Toy + toothbrush + high five

Choose a small toy, a new toothbrush, and a sticker for being brave. Most kids ask when they're coming back.

Services

Everything kids need.

All routine kids' dental services covered under CDBS for eligible families.

🦷

Check-ups & cleans

6-monthly visits to keep teeth healthy and catch anything early.

🛡️

Fissure sealants

A protective coating on the back teeth that prevents most cavities. Quick, painless, no needle.

🩹

Children's fillings

Tooth-coloured fillings done gently with numbing if needed. Most kids handle them fine.

📸

X-rays

Low-dose digital X-rays only when needed — usually once every 12 month to check for any hidden cavities between the teeth.

😬

Wobbly tooth removal

For baby teeth that won't come out, or stubborn ones causing pain.

🚨

Emergency kids visits

Knocked-out tooth, swelling or pain — same-day spots reserved for kids.

Since 2002

FAQ

Common questions.

Yes — eligible children aged 2 to 17 can access up to $1,158 of dental services across two calendar years under the Medicare CDBS. We bulk-bill every CDBS-eligible visit — meaning $0 out of pocket. Eligibility is confirmed by Services Australia each January and usually applies to families receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A or similar government payments.
Most families receiving Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment, ABSTUDY, Carer Payment or similar Centrelink payments will have eligible children. You can check eligibility through your Medicare account on myGov, or we can quickly check for you when you book.
We recommend the first visit by age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth coming through. Early visits aren't about treatment — they're about getting your child comfortable in the chair, checking development, and giving you tips on brushing, weaning and what to look out for.
First visits are gentle and unhurried. We let your child sit in your lap if they prefer, count their teeth, take a quick look, and answer any questions you have. No drills, no scary tools — just a get-to-know-you visit that ends with a toy and a new toothbrush they get to choose.
Anxious kids are our specialty. We've cared for over 3,000 children since 2002, including many who came in scared. We never rush, never force a treatment, and use simple words like "tooth shower" for cleaning and "sleepy juice" for numbing. Many parents tell us their child looks forward to the next visit.
CDBS does not cover orthodontics or cosmetic dental work. We can assess your child's bite during regular check-ups and refer to a specialist orthodontist if treatment is needed. We're happy to recommend trusted local orthodontists in Auburn, Parramatta or Strathfield.

Common questions

Parents often ask.

Tap any question to expand. Still curious? Call or WhatsApp — we're happy to chat.

We recommend the first visit by age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Cavities can form in as little as 6 months, so a quick check makes sure everything is going well — and gets your little one comfortable with the chair before they need any real work.
Berala Dental is a CDBS participating provider. If your family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A (or a similar eligible payment) and your child is aged 2–17, the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule covers basic dental care up to a Medicare-funded benefit amount. We can quickly check eligibility for you when you book.
This is our specialty. Tell us when you book (or in the notes) what they're worried about, and we plan the first visit around it — longer, slower, often no treatment at all on day one. We also offer happy gas (nitrous oxide) sedation administered by Dr Mahnaz for kids who've had a bad experience elsewhere. Parents stay in the room. We go at their pace.
Yes — one of the reasons parents love us. We'll book family slots back-to-back so you make one trip instead of three. Just let us know how many kids and rough ages when booking, and we'll build the schedule around the youngest (shortest attention span wins).
We do orthodontic assessments (usually around age 8) and can handle simple alignment cases in-house. For complex cases, we refer to a specialist orthodontist we trust locally — we'll tell you upfront either way, and we don't take a referral fee for it.
Yes. Untreated decay in baby teeth can cause pain, infection, and damage to the developing adult tooth underneath. Baby molars typically don't fall out until age 10 to 12, so they need to last for years of chewing. CDBS-eligible children receive bulk-billed fillings, so cost is rarely a barrier.
Modern digital dental X-rays use very low radiation — comparable to a few hours of normal daylight exposure. X-rays are taken only when clinically necessary, typically every 12 to 24 months for school-age children, and far less often (or not at all) for very young children. The dentist will always explain why an X-ray is recommended before any are taken.
Yes — happy gas (nitrous oxide) is safe and effective for children from approximately age 4 onwards, who can keep the small nasal mask on consistently. Dr Mahnaz administers happy gas regularly for nervous children needing fillings or extractions. Effects wear off within 5 to 10 minutes, so your child can return to school the same day.

💬 What Parents often like to ask before coming in

Parents often ask.

When should my child have their first dental visit?
We recommend the first visit by age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth appearing. Cavities can form in as little as 6 months, so a quick check makes sure everything is going well — and gets your little one comfortable with the chair before they need any real work.
Does Medicare CDBS cover my child's visit?
If your family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A (or a similar eligible payment) and your child is aged 0–17, yes — up to $1,158 every 2 years, bulk-billed directly to Medicare. We check eligibility at the desk using your Medicare card — takes 30 seconds, and we tell you the balance before any appointment.
My child is very anxious — what do you do?
This is our specialty. Tell us when you book (or in the notes) what they're worried about, and we plan the first visit around it — longer, slower, often no treatment at all on day one. We also offer happy gas (nitrous oxide) for kids who've had a bad experience elsewhere. Parents stay in the room. We go at their pace.
Can I book all my kids together?
Yes — one of the reasons parents love us. We'll book family slots back-to-back so you make one trip instead of three. Just let us know how many kids and rough ages when booking, and we'll build the schedule around the youngest (shortest attention span wins).
Do you do braces, or refer out?
We do orthodontic assessments (usually around age 8) and can handle simple alignment cases in-house. For complex cases, we refer to a specialist orthodontist we trust locally — we'll tell you upfront either way, and we don't take a referral fee for it.
