What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe and persistent toothache, a knocked-out tooth, a broken or cracked tooth causing pain, a lost filling or crown, swelling of the face or gums, dental trauma after an accident, and post-extraction or post-root-canal complications. If you have facial swelling that affects breathing, high fever, or difficulty swallowing, attend a hospital emergency department first.

What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?

Pick up the tooth by the crown (not the root). Rinse gently with milk or saline if dirty — do not scrub. If possible, place it back in the socket and bite gently on a clean cloth. If reinsertion isn't possible, store in milk or saliva and call us immediately on (02) 9649 6468. The first hour matters most for re-implantation success.

Do you bulk-bill CDBS for children's dental emergencies?

Yes. We bulk-bill all eligible CDBS services for children aged 0-17 whose family receives Family Tax Benefit Part A. The CDBS benefit cap is $1,158 per eligible child over 2 calendar years (2026 figure — confirm at health.gov.au). Children's emergency dental treatment is covered under this scheme where eligible.

What does an emergency consultation cost?

The emergency consultation fee is in the typical $180-$250 range. Any X-rays or treatment required will be quoted in writing before work proceeds. Health fund rebates apply where you have cover — we accept all major funds via HICAPS. BUPA Members First members may have lower out-of-pocket costs on eligible items.

What are your opening hours for emergencies?

Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm. Closed Sundays. For severe issues outside opening hours, attend a hospital emergency department or call Healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for triage advice.
