What "3D dentistry" actually means

It's a family of digital tools that build an accurate three-dimensional picture of your mouth:

• Intraoral 3D scanning — a small wand glides over your teeth and builds a precise digital model on the screen in real time. This replaces goopy impression trays for things like night guards, splints and sports mouthguards.
• Digital X-rays and the OPG — a full-mouth image that shows what's happening under the gums and between teeth, which we walk you through on screen rather than squinting at a tiny film.
• Intraoral camera photos — you see the actual tooth we're talking about, magnified, before any decision is made.
• 3D-guided planning for implants — when Dr Belal Aly places dental implants, the position is planned digitally in three dimensions before anything touches your mouth.
